ADRENALINE AND GASOLINE

by Stephanie Olivier-Smith

Adrenaline and gasoline were pumping strong throughout the night Saturday July 21, 2007 at Whiskey Lake Raceway. Automobile classes included B-modified, Street Stock, Quad, and Combined Class.  Drivers and fans came from Salina, Osage, and everywhere in between to be apart of the rush of racing.

The Kansas Auto Racing Museum Street Stock Trophy Dash proved to be exciting judging by the audience reaction. Crowd members were  yelling, waving shirts, and standing on bleachers to help their friends cross the finish line.  Winner of the Trophy dash went to Steve Albrecht who has been racing the same car for twenty-three years.

K.A.R.M. B-modified trophy dash had some turbulence between Ed Mueller #14m and Doug Thompson #05 on turn four.  Both finished the race but had lost some speed due to the incident. Lance Brooks #12 avoided trouble the best he could and captured the award.

Loud and proud the Quads entered the track with waves and wheelies, For their Main Event. Brent Shane #1-7 finished the close race in first place.   In second place was #16 Roger Senters.

A competitive duel was created in the Combined class feature between Del Vinsonhaler #3rd and Cory Limb #7. The Two bumped each other hard enough to where their engines stalled out simultaneously.  After the engines started again, Cory Limb #7 won his first trophy of the season.  Del Vinsonhaler #3rd came in second.

The Street Stock feature came next.  Bobby Fiest #57 and #2nd Darin Willard collided.  Fiest made it back to the track only to lose  a tire moments later after side swiping a barrier.  First place winner was the trophy dash

winner Steve Albrecht #7r. Second place was #15 Matt Norrid of Houston Texas.  Third place was #13 Dean May.

In the B-modified feature #14m Ed Mueller started off ahead.  Dennie Gieber #24 and Mueller hit Each other. It did not hurt Mueller’s placement until #12 Lance Brooks and #1w John Welsh snuck up from behind. Lance Brooks #12 earned another trophy by capturing the checkered flag. #74 Greg Gieswein drove his way to second.  In third place was John Welsh #1w.
